Nuit Blanche - The 4 Letter Word Machine

In the middle of Toronto last night, suspended 65 meters in the air, artist D. A. Therrien would display words, DNA sequences, and code on a series of 7 meter squares. This was one of my favorite installations - the rumbling of the loudspeakers when a low, almost inhuman voice would read the displayed word began as a force of attraction, until you got close enough that the polarity flipped and became uncomfortable to be near. The feeling of wonder, and then fear, felt to me what an encounter with a massive monster would be like, in its complacent state, and wait until it begins a destructive rampage.
